Casa Ravella is a family winery that has been linked to the world of wines since the 1700s. Under the Penedés P.D.O., we own vineyards in different municipalities in the L´Alt Penedès region; Can Font (St. LLorenç d´Hortons), Cal Suriol (Sant Cugat de Sesgarrigues), La Caseta and Montargull (Avinyonet del Penedès) and Casa Ravella (Subirats). Our wine cellar is located in the middle of our family estate Cal Ravella, which is part of the Ordal village and lies at 325 meters above sea level.
Our plot, typical of the “Costers de Ordal” region, characterizes by having clay-loam and permeable soil, over a limestone foundation with low organic matter content. In these soils, coral reef sediments from the Miocene period can be found, indicating that the plot was below seal level during the Tertiary Age.
At present, we hold 200 hectares of vineyard, where indigenous varieties such as Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Parellada grapes can be found, as well as non-native ones as the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. For a few years now, we market our products under our own brand and signature.
In the production of our still wines and cavas (sparkling) we monitor through pruning, fertilization and other farmworks. Likewise, the grape ripening process is monitored in order to select and pick at the ideal time.
A significant commitment for our vines to be environmentally friendly, has been adapting to ecological agriculture, now registered in the Catalonian Council of Ecological Agricultural Production( CCPAE).
